String classes (Section D)

Adjudicator: Erika Klemperer

Erica adjudicated for us in 2004 and we are pleased she is able to return for our 2009 Festival.

A native of Richmond, Indiana, Erika Klemperer studied the violin from the age of seven.  She graduated from Indiana University with honours and came to England at the invitation of Yehudi Menuhin to continue her postgraduate studies.  She enjoys considerable success in the field of chamber music and recitals, both in England and abroad. ‘Erika Klemperer revealed virtuoso technique and an artistic sensibility which ensured her talents were put to intensely musical effect’ was how The Times described a London recital.  Ms Klemperer is a member of the Klemperer trio and a founding member of the Chanticleer Music Festival in the USA.  She is a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is a member of the City of London Sinfonia.  She resides in London with her husband, pianist Gordon Back, and their three lively children.

Solo Classes - Own Choice (accompanist optional)

Duet/Small Ensemble classes (new classification this year)

Accompaniment optional. Any number and combination of instruments but must include at least one string instrument. For small ensembles there must be only 1 player to each part.

Ensemble classes (larger groups)

Must include violin, cello, guitar or harp. Any number to a part.

Recital Classes - Any European Stringed Instrument

2 or 3 pieces to form a balanced programme
