Speech & Drama Classes
Saturday 12th - Sunday 27st March 2011

Adjudicators:

MIA BALL BA, LGSM, PGVS, PGCA
JUNE RAYNER FRSA, AGSM, LRAM (Hon), FLAM (Hon), IEMS

Mia Ball has been involved with drama and the Festival movement since she the played the Cheshire Cat at the age of eight.  She studied for her LGSM while reading for an Honours degree in English, and then moved on to BBC Radio, working mainly in the drama department.  Having a family encouraged her to go into teaching and she has taught all ages from 8 to 80.  Until July ‘09 she taught in a girls’ independent school, taking “A” Level Drama and Theatre Studies courses  and directing plays, as well as preparing students for grade examinations, and of course, Festivals.  She is now focusing on an increasing range of  of free-lance work, including examining, running workshops, teaching presentation skills and helping to organise her local Festival.   She examines and runs teachers’ workshops for LAMDA both in this country and abroad and regularly adjudicates at Festivals in England and Hong Kong.  She is looking forward to her first visit to Watford Festival.

Since training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, June Rayner has performed, directed, lectured on and taught speech and drama all her working life. She continues to train teachers of speech and drama and to superintend their work in their studios and classrooms. An experienced adjudicator and a former examiner for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, she is a keen judge of public speaking, adjudicating regularly for The English Speaking Union competitions and similar bodies at National and International level. A former chairman of the adjudicator’s council, Mrs Rayner, was able to develop her interest in all three disciplines: music, speech and dance. She assesses opera, musical comedy and dramatic productions for The Rose Bowl Competition that ranges over seven counties in the South-West. She looks forward to her visit to The Watford Festival where she expects to see some fine work.
